Hollywood Bowl Cancels Sunday Concert As Heat Wave Causes L.A. Power Outages
The Hollywood Bowl was forced to cancel Sunday evening’s Vance Joy concert after a power outage earlier in the day impacted 1,400 LA DWP households in the Hollywood area.
Sunday continued a heat wave in Southern California with another 100-plus-degree day. The start time of the concert, 7 p.m. PT, saw the thermometer still at 90 degrees in downtown L.A. DTLA hit a record-high 104 degrees for the day Sunday, while UCLA (98) and Woodland Hills (111) tied records, according to the National Weather Service.

LA DWP reps told Deadline that there has been a “circuit outage” in the Hollywood area, meaning repair times will be longer. They gave no timeline for power to be restored, but the utility’s outage map said repairs were expected to be completed by Tuesday.
Portions of the Hollywood Hills surrounding the Bowl are also dark this evening, as well as parts of Hollywood proper, forcing the iconic L.A. venue to cancel its show headlined by Joy and indie rockers Grouplove.
“Tonight’s Vance Joy concert is cancelled due to a power outage affecting the Hollywood Bowl and vicinity,” the Bowl wrote on its website this evening, “We apologize for the inconvenience. If a new date for this performance can be confirmed, details will follow and tickets for the original date will be valid for the new performance date. No further action is needed on your part. For any questions, exchanges, or refund requests, please contact Audience Services at [email protected].”

The LA DWP tweeted that as of 3 p.m., it was working to restore power to more than 6,600 customers in L.A. County, with Echo Park and Northridge the most impacted areas.
Forecasts call for one more day Monday of 100-plus-degree heat, with temperatures expected to be in the 80s on Tuesday.
