Henderson County DA rules 'no probable cause' after Maryland man fatally shot in Flat Rock

After a Maryland man was shot to death on April 6 in Flat Rock, Henderson County District Attorney Andrew Murray ruled there’s no probable cause to issue criminal charges related to the death.

On April 6, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime’s Unit responded to a reported shooting incident in the Flat Rock community south of Hendersonville, according to a previous social media post from the sheriff’s office.

“The involved parties were immediately identified and there is no threat to the public,” Stephanie Brackett, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office said the initial investigation identified one dead male, Jonathan Durell Solomon, 38, of Baltimore.

Though the sheriff’s office has not released more information about what happened, Solomon’s death certificate indicates he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died in the yard of an apartment complex on Greenville Highway.

Solomon was fleeing an altercation and was shot at about 12:42 a.m., the report said. He died at approximately 1:10 a.m.

“In the days to follow, the case facts were presented to the District Attorney’s Office who determined no probable cause existed to issue charges related to the death,” Brackett said.

However, the sheriff’s investigation remains active, according to Brackett.

"Other than reviewing all the facts and evidence of the case I determined there was no probable cause related to the shooting and subsequent unfortunate death, I will not be commenting further," Murray told the Citizen Times.

Though Solomon was born in Baltimore, his death certificate says he was an Asheville resident. He worked as a truck driver for a delivery company.

The 38-year-old was buried at a cemetery in Parkville, Maryland, where his parents live, according to the report. The Citizen Times attempted to reach his family.
