Green Bay Board of Education approves multi-million-dollar referendum for November election
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Area Public School District’s Board of Education voted to approve a multi-million-dollar referendum for the November election during Monday’s meeting.
The $183 million referendum is split into two portions: $33 million will go toward security and safety improvements at the schools, and the remaining $150 million will upgrade elementary schools to accommodate more students.
Additionally, the referendum would approve the construction of a new elementary school at the current site of Kennedy Elementary. Kennedy, Keller, and MacArthur Elementary students would attend this new school.
District officials want to assure voters in the November election that taxes would not go up if the referendum were to pass. This is because the debt from the previous referendum will be paid off.
The referendum will now be on the November 5 ballot, and voters will have the opportunity to approve or reject the project.
