Gigi’s Cucina Povera in Kenmore to close following building’s sale
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Gigi’s Cucina Povera in Kenmore, which is known for its Sicilian cuisine, is closing at the end of this month following the building’s sale, the restaurant announced Wednesday.
Gigi’s, located at 981 Kenmore Ave., first opened in 2013. The business will be open from Wednesday through Saturday until its last day of operation on Jan. 25, Gigi’s owner and chef Mary Ann Giordano said in a social media post.
“We at Gigi’s are so so thankful to have had so many people touch our lives and influence the course of Gigi’s through the years,” Giordano said in the post. “While paying tribute to my father, grandmother, and our Sicilian Heritage, our mission has remained the same… In our ‘poor kitchen’ the philosophy is simple: Make great food with fresh, local and seasonal ingredients, transforming the simple into more than the sum of its parts.”
Another restaurant will soon take Gigi’s place, Giordano said, just as Gigi’s once did, since it occupies the former location of O’Connell’s and previously the Hourglass restaurant, according to Gigi’s website.
