James Gardner endorsed by Republicans for Buffalo mayor
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Republican Committee has endorsed James Gardner for Buffalo mayor, WIVB News 4 has confirmed.
Gardner is a former law clerk for Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case and is also a former assistant district attorney. He was the Republican Party’s candidate for district attorney last year, losing to Democrat Mike Keane.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Republican Party for Mayor of Buffalo,” Gardner said. “City taxpayers deserve a real choice in this election and my campaign will offer them one.”
Chairman Chris Porter says the city’s Republican party stands for common sense issues like safety, prosperity, and a brighter future for the city and Gardner will give voice to those issues.
When Gardner ran for district attorney, he said that “Democrats across New York have abandoned the rule of law, leaving our families and communities defenseless against a devastating border crisis, rising crime, and reckless bail reform laws.”
New York State Senator Sean Ryan was endorsed by the Erie County Democratic Committee for Buffalo mayor on Saturday. Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon, former Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield and Buffalo Councilman Rasheed Wyatt are also in the race.
Those hoping to run must secure a petition of at least 2,000 signatures from registered voters by April 3.
