Former first lady Michelle Obama to deliver speech at 2024 Democratic convention
Former first lady Michelle Obama will address the Democratic National Convention in her native city of Chicago on Tuesday, multiple sources have confirmed with USA TODAY.
Michelle Obama, one of the most popular Democratic figures, joins an all-star lineup, including her husband, former President Barack Obama, who are rallying the party faithful in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, who is surging in polls ahead of the 2024 election.
The party's theme on Tuesday is slated to be "A Bold Vision for America’s Future."
Earlier in the year, Michelle Obama had expressed being "terrified" at the prospect of Republican former President Donald Trump, who succeeded her husband in the White House, returning to power. She gained considerable attention for her 2016 convention speech, where she said: "When they go low, we go high."
Michelle Obama's addition to the lineup of prominent Democratic leaders rallying in support of Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is bound to create more buzz as they gear up for the rest of the 2024 election.
Biden is scheduled to address delegates on Monday, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 election, will also address the convention that night. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, host of the convention, is also set to speak Monday.
Former President Bill Clinton is making an address on Wednesday, ahead of Walz's VP nomination acceptance speech. Harris is set to formally accept her party's nomination on Thursday.
