The claim: Video shows Ron DeSantis confronting Hunter Biden over deleted laptop files

Hunter Biden's laptop became a national news story in October 2020 after he left it at a repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware, and data from it was later obtained by the New York Post.

A Sept. 19 Facebook video claims Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis confronted Biden, the president's son, about the laptop.

"FINALLY! Ron DeSantis CONFRONTS Hunter Biden In Florida, DELETED Laptop Files Surfaces," reads the video's caption.

The same claim was made in a Sept. 12 Facebook post that was viewed more than 12,000 times in ten days before it was deleted.

But the video is miscaptioned. The video shows DeSantis speaking about the state of education in Florida, not confronting Biden.

USA TODAY reached out to the user who shared the post for comment.

Video shows DeSantis' remarks on education

The 16-minute video included in the Facebook post shows two different clips from DeSantis' Sept. 8 appearance at The Heritage Foundation's 2022 Education Freedom Report Card launch. The first shows a question and answer portion of the event, while the second shows DeSantis' opening remarks. In both clips, DeSantis speaks about the state of education in Florida.

At no point in the video does DeSantis confront Biden, who is not visible or mentioned in either clip.

Based on our research, we rate FALSE the claim that a video shows DeSantis confronting Biden over deleted laptop files. The video shows DeSantis speaking at a Heritage Foundation event. He does not mention or confront Biden.
