Experts say Texans can expect an uptick in flies, mosquitos this year
TYLER, Texas (KETK) – With a strong round of storms in the past few weeks and now high temperatures, bugs are out and about in East Texas. Experts have said it’s no surprise to see an uptick of flies, gnats, and mosquitos with the recent weather.

CEO of Innovative Pest Control, Tony Santangelo, said these bugs are almost always the product of excessive moisture.
“Find the source, the source is water, so if you’ve got plants and there’s water in the bottom, if you’ve got things in your yard that’s holding water you need to turn them upside down,” Santangelo said.
East Texas usually sees more insects that other areas nationwide due to longer summers and hot temperatures, Santangelo said.
“You know up north they may have two or three generations, we’re going to have seven, eight, or nine,” Santangelo said.
Experts said if you’re dealing with pesky bugs, to find the source and don’t leave standing water, keep your spaces clean and even clean out drains with grease.
“What’s happening is grease builds up on the side of the drains and the gnats lay their eggs in that grease,” Santangelo said.
