Ex-attorney on probation for sexual assault admits to attempted tampering
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A disbarred attorney who pleaded guilty to rape and additional sexual assault charges in April 2023 has admitted to an attempted tampering charge, the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Officials said Nicholas D’Angelo faked a campaign contribution in an attempt to alter State Board of Elections records. When he was initially charged with attempted tampering with public records in March 2023, state police said D’Angelo “forged records and used a victim’s identity.”
D’Angelo was relieved of his duties after being found guilty of rape and sexual abuse. He gave up his law license and will not re-apply for one in the future as a condition of his plea.
In 2016, D’Angelo forcibly engaged in sexual conduct with a victim inside his locked vehicle. Two years later, he forced sexual contact with a different victim in his Lockport office. Between August 2019 and October 2019, D’Angelo engaged in sexual intercourse with a minor victim both on his boat and inside his vehicle.
D’Angelo faces up to six months of weekends in jail for the attempted tampering charge.
“If he wasn’t already disbarred, this conviction would have immediately resulted in the loss of his law license,” said Niagara County District Attorney Brian Seaman. “I would have liked to push for a more serious prison term, but to do so in this case would have ‘satisfied’ the probation sentence in his sex offense case by operation of law. Even a short prison sentence would have the effect of relieving the defendant of sex offender probation.”
