Escambia County planning new public dressing rooms on Pensacola Beach

Escambia County plans to add more public-use dressing rooms to Pensacola Beach by building a new structure in front of the Pensacola Beach Public Safety Building.

County plans call for the new building to be 800 square feet to be built directly next to the existing open-air showers in front of the Public Safety Building’s restrooms.

According to the project's site plans, there will be six individual dressing rooms and two family-size dressing rooms within the building. The dressing rooms will be constructed on elevated timber piles and will be accessible using wooden stairs and two ramps that are also included in the proposed project, according to the project’s site plans.

The project will require an existing drinking fountain to be moved a short distance away to create space for one of the building’s ramps.

The project will not interfere with the use of other dressing/changing rooms and restrooms around Pensacola Beach, according to Escambia County public information officer Andrea Gibson.

Escambia County is waiting on a coastal construction permit from Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) before its contractor for the project, JNB Services LLC, can begin construction, according to Gibson.

A timeline for the dressing rooms project will not be available until the contractors have gotten their permit from FDEP, according to Gibson.

Escambia County has been working on this project since last year and filed their plans for it on March 27.
