‘Eight is Enough’ actor Adam Rich died of fentanyl overdose, says Los Angeles medical examiner
Adam Rich, the former star of the hit series, “Eight Is Enough” reportedly suffered a fatal fentanyl overdose, according to results from his autopsy reported by TMZ
The L.A. County Medical Examiner found that Rich was killed by the powerful opioid and also had non-toxic levels of alcohol and the drug lorazepam, the generic name for Ativan, in his system, said the TMZ report Friday.
Rich was discovered dead in his L.A. home in January. Authorities said that they did not suspect foul play at the time, and the medical examiner later stated his body was found in a “state of mild decomposition.”
Law enforcement had suspected an overdose to be the cause of death even before the official autopsy.
Rich’s body was discovered by the manager at his apartment building inside a bathroom where there was a white powder substance believed to be drugs.
The former child actor was 54 years old at the time of his death, and had a history of struggling with drugs. A prior incident, when Rich allegedly attempted to steal drugs from a pharmacy, led to his arrest in 1991.
He’s most remembered for his role as Nicholas Bradford, the youngest son on the 1970s TV episodic “Eight Is Enough.” Rich starred in the series for its entire run from 1977 to 1981.
He also appeared in the 1981 TV show “Code Red” and the 1983 show “Dungeons & Dragons.” In VH1′s list of the top 100 greatest kid stars, Rich came in at #73.
