Drivers will encounter lane shift, temporary signal on Erie's Bayfront Parkway
A temporary traffic signal will be in operation on the Bayfront Parkway at Sassafras Street Extension beginning on Wednesday.
Also, westbound traffic near the intersection will continue to be in a single lane but will be shifted south into an unused lane, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Bicycle and pedestrian traffic between Sassafras Street Extension and State Street will be directed to a path separated from the work area by barriers.
The traffic changes are expected to continue through fall while a roundabout, sidewalks and curb ramps are built at Sassafras Street Extension.
Additional traffic restrictions may be needed at times to accommodate construction.
Traffic and construction updates will be posted at penndot.pa.gov/BayfrontParkwayProject and on the project's Facebook group.
This season's construction will open a multi-year, $111.7 million project to improve the highway between Sassafras Extension and Holland Street.
