DPS provides more details on van wreck that killed 4 and injured 10
The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the victims and provided more details about a van accident on northbound U.S. 287 that killed four people and injured 10 others Wednesday.
DPS Sgt. Tony De La Cerda said the 15-passenger van was coming from Florida and was headed to New Mexico. He said in a press release all 14 occupants were Florida residents of Haitian descent.
He also said the incident did not involve human smuggling or human trafficking.
The accident happened near Alvord, between Bowie and Decatur about 8 a.m.
The DPS said the driver apparently swerved and overcorrected, and the van rolled several times, ejecting several of the occupants. The driver was among those killed.
The dead were identified as:
Diony Antoine, 46
Irard Vixamar, 42
Ledene Pierre-Louis, 36
Geneve Louis, 28
The injured are:
Noel Fednel, 35, critical injuries
Dieudyrat Eliassaint, 35, critical injuries
Walnick Desir, 33, serious injuries
Reginald Neptune, 34, serious injuries
Marc Jean Lorkens Baptiste, 25 , serious injuries
Vincola Lecean, 52, serious injuries
Junior Louis, 35, serious injuries
Jean Edson, 35, serious injuries
Jean Philippe Durock, 47, serious injuries
Manius Vines, 44, minor injuries
All the injured people were transported to hospitals in Fort Worth or Denton for treatment.
