Downtown Peoria restaurant will close nearly one year after its revival in iconic spot
In Downtown Peoria, Richard’s Under Main announced plans to close after a final day on Saturday, June 29 – exactly one month shy of its one-year anniversary.
The news comes after the restaurant – situated at 311 Main St. – faced multiple setbacks and challenges in recent weeks.
“We have had coolers break, flooding, loss of business and we just can't dig out of the (hole) we are in,” the business wrote in its June 25 post. “Our liquor license expires on Sunday and we will once again become a memory of downtown (Peoria).”
By 12:45 p.m., the announcement had garnered over 445 reactions and more than 330 shares on Facebook. Many in the comments expressed sadness over the news.
The underground restaurant space was once home to Richard’s on Main – a downtown staple which offered “Steaks til 4AM.” The original business was listed for sale in 2015 before ultimately closing in 2018.
Last July, Raul Salazar and Scott Wood revived the space as Richard’s Under Main.

All drinks will be available for $3 during the final week, according to Richard’s Under Main. Customers will also find wings and pizzas for $10 while supplies last.
Richard’s Under Main thanked its employees and encouraged the community to visit during its final days. The restaurant wrote:
“It's our last week Peoria... let's make it a party!!!!”
