Donald Trump's nephew blasts his 'atomic crazy' uncle in new book, backs Kamala Harris
Former President Donald Trump has had the support of many Trumps through his time in the White House and his current campaign.
But in addition to Trump's niece Mary, another member of the family ? Trump's nephew, Fred Trump III ? says he will not be voting for their famous relative.
"Every family has their crazy uncle. My Uncle Donald is atomic crazy," Fred Trump told ABC News.
In his new memoir, “All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way,” Fred Trump blasts his uncle for allegedly saying disabled children "should just die." The younger Trump's son, William, was diagnosed with a rare disorder, infantile spasms, that impacts physical and cognitive development.
Fred Trump also told ABC News he witnessed his uncle decades ago use racial slurs.
"I was about 10 years old, and I was at my grandparents' house, like I was a lot," Fred Trump said in a recent interview. "And Donald ? I could hear him screaming. And I went down to the driveway of my grandparents' house, and there was his white El Dorado convertible with two slashes. Still remember it."
"And he used the word ? the N-word ? twice just saying who he thought probably had done this."
The former president has denied using the slur, and his campaign told ABC News in a statement that Fred Trump's claims are "completely fabricated and total fake news of the highest order."
"It is appalling a lie so blatantly disgusting can be printed in media," Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung said. "Anyone who knows President Trump knows he would never use such language, and false stories like this have been thoroughly debunked."
Others have made similar allegations against the former president.
Bill Pruitt, former producer on The Apprentice, in a Slate article in May accused the former president of making "misogynistic as well as racist" comments, including the same slur. Trump likewise denied Pruitt's claims.
Other criticism from within the Trump family
Trump has leaned heavily on support from within his family, including previous Republican National Convention addresses and campaign appearances by several of his children and one granddaughter, and relying on his daughter and Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner as White House advisors.
But Trump's nephew is not the first to criticize him.
Mary Trump sharply criticized into her uncle, the former president, in her own tell-all memoir released in 2020. She also secretly recorded hours of conversation with Trump's sister Maryanne Trump Barry, who could be heard referring to her brother as a "brat" and a "liar."
Fred Trump said he plans to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Still, he said he's "always had a good relationship with his uncle."
"But he's done really horrific things to me," Fred Trump told ABC, "which some people will say, 'How could you still want to have a relationship with him?' He's my uncle. He's family, and that means a lot."
