“This day is devastating!!!! Left the hospital earlier, sick af, went home, then had to packed what I could to evacuate,” wrote the 53-year-old on Instagram on Saturday (Jan. 11) sharing a clip driving away from his residence.
“As I drove away I seen the fire rising from behind my house, It’s a nightmare!!! I got the flowers my mom gave me before she passed tho,” he confirmed with the quick caption.
Days earlier, he postponed his birthday party due to the tragic fires, writing, “Don’t feel right to do my birthday party while people are losing everything they own and myself being under high alert for my own home. Pray for the families.”
He also shared a selfie from a hospital bed with a visible intravenous line among additional medical tools.
“Thank u all for your birthday well wishes. I sure could use them. Thank you all,” wrote the standup comedian.
Cole is one of several celebrities who have shared that their homes perished in the wildfires. Tina Knowles, Jhené Aiko, Paris Hilton, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Kawhi Leonard, and more have all been impacted by the monumental event.
According to the Associated Press, multiple fires erupted in southern California last week, killing at least 24 people, displacing thousands of others, and destroying more than 12,000 structures in what might be the most expensive conflagrations in the nation’s history. At least 23 people are missing, with the number expected to rise.
No cause for any of the multiple deadly fires has been determined.
