David Tennant Stokes Anger After Telling Female Lawmaker To “Shut Up” Over Her Trans Views
David Tennant has been criticized after the Doctor Who actor told British equalities minister Kemi Badenoch to “shut up” because he disagrees with her views on trans rights.
Tennant was recognized for being a “celebrity ally” at the recent British LGBT Awards and, in an acceptance speech that has surfaced online, he spoke out against Badenoch.

The actor said he was on the side of “human decency” and believes “everyone has the right to be who they want to be,” before arguing against Badenoch’s existence.
“Until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore – I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up – whilst we do live in this world, I am honored to receive this [award],” he said.

Badenoch, who is known for her combative approach to politics, responded: “I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls.
“A rich, lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology he can’t see the optics of attacking the only black woman in government by calling publicly for my existence to end.”

Her post on X (formerly Twitter) was shared by J.K. Rowling, a staunch critic of transgender ideology. The Harry Potter author also shared a post from journalist Hadley Freeman, who wrote: “In the name of kindness and supporting the vulnerable, white man says he hopes black woman soon no longer exists.”
During her time in government, Badenoch has advocated for banning trans women from entering women’s toilets and sports teams to protect female rights and safety.
