Dave Chappelle buys land from housing developer in Yellow Springs; plans unclear
A company tied to comedian Dave Chappelle has purchased a 52-acre property in Yellow Springs from land developer Oberer. The developer originally planned to build an affordable housing development on the land.
Chappelle's publicist Carla Sims told the Yellow Springs News that he had recently bought the land, but was unable to specify if he had bought the entire property. He lives in Yellow Springs, a small village outside of Dayton.
Josué Salmerón, the Yellow Springs village manager, told the Dayton Daily News that it was his understanding that Oberer transferred all of the acres to Chappelle's control.
Oberer Companies President George Oberer confirmed to the Dayton Daily News that Oberer would no longer be developing the land, but said he was not at liberty to say why the company transferred the land.

Lots within the original property along Spillan Road and East Hyde Road are owned by Spillan Rd LLC, according to Greene County auditor records. The LLC was formed in March 2022. Some parcels show the mailing address at PO Box 739, which is the same address as Iron Table Holdings LLC, Chappelle's company.
In April, Chappelle was a target of criticism after speaking out against the intended development, saying in a statement that the plan was not the right fit for Yellow Springs. He also threatened to stop his plans to open a comedy club in a former fire station.
"Dave Chappelle didn't kill affordable housing," Sims said in a statement for Chappelle in April. "Concerned residents and a responding Village Council 'killed' a half-baked plan which never actually offered affordable housing."
