'Dangerous heat and humidity' through Wednesday, severe thunderstorms possible
PROVIDENCE ? The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory as "dangerous heat and humidity" moves into the region today and sticks around through Wednesday.
The weather service is forecasting high temperatures in Providence of 93, 94 and 92 degrees over the next three days. Heat indexes, the combination of heat and humidity, of up to 103 are expected.
Severe thunderstorms are possible, too
"Dangerous heat and humidity is on tap for our region today through Wednesday, with the chance for mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms each day, and especially later Wednesday into Wednesday night," the weather service said.
"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," the weather service says in the advisory. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors."
The region could also see severe thunderstorms with the potential for damaging winds, according to the weather service.
