Aldi has issued a recall for four specific kinds of cream cheese that were sold in more than two dozen U.S. states.
The recall notice was issued on May 9 in cooperation with Schreiber Foods, Inc. The recall, which Aldi said was issued “out of an abundance of caution,” was prompted by a concern that the four specific cream cheese products could have a “potential salmonella” risk.
The four cream cheese products impacted by the recall include the Happy Farms Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, Cream Cheese Spread and the Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread. The recall affects cream cheese products sold in 8-ounce packaging with varying sell by dates in August and September of this year. People exposed to salmonella can experience a variety of symptoms including stomach upset, fevers and headaches. While many people who contract a salmonella infection typically recover on their own in four to seven days, the infection can cause dehydration and, in some cases, may require medical attention, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
