Coroner IDs man involved in hourslong police standoff in Scranton, rules he died of a self-inflicted gunshot
A man who Scranton police say shot a woman in the arm before barricading himself in a Pine Street home during an hourslong standoff Saturday fatally shot himself, Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland said.
Tyshawn C. Mack, 32, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday during a standoff with police at 1612 Pine St., Rowland said in an email Monday. Rowland ruled Mack’s death a suicide.
Scranton police responded to Pine Street around 10:09 a.m. Saturday for a report of people arguing and the sound of two gunshots, according to a news release from police.
Within a minute, responding officers found a 27-year-old woman who had been shot in the arm. It was not a life-threatening injury, police said.
After learning of an armed suspect still inside, patrol officers set up a perimeter, tried to get the person to come outside and brought in the Scranton Police Department Special Operations Group and Lackawanna County SWAT team.
As tactical teams searched the home, they were ambushed with gunfire from the attic. No officers were hurt, and the officers did not use lethal force, according to Scranton police.
At about 5:08 p.m. Saturday, a tactical robot discovered the suspect — Mack — unresponsive in the attic with a single gunshot wound, according to police.
Authorities did not identify the 27-year-old woman.
