Will there be commercials during the Biden-Trump presidential debate?
President Joe Biden is preparing for the upcoming debate next week with his aides at Camp David, including Ron Klain, his former chief of staff. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is meeting with U.S. Senators and advisers at Mar-a-Lago and on the campaign trail as to the best strategy for the first televised presidential debate of 2024.
In addition to new rules like muted microphones and a lack of an audience, the debate broadcast will also have two commercial breaks over the 90 minutes—no word yet about how many ad breaks the debate will contain and how long they will be.
The Commission on Presidential Debates, which has typically overseen the debates in past years, didn’t include commercial breaks during the debates. But this year, the candidates skirted the Commission, instead agreeing to two debates hosted by news networks.
The first is on June 27 in Atlanta, hosted by CNN with moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. The second is scheduled for September 10, sponsored by ABC News and moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis.
