Canadian border patrol catches person jumping off moving train in Fort Erie
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Canadian border patrol caught a person jumping off of a moving train just across Buffalo’s U.S.-Canada border in Fort Erie, they said Wednesday.
Authorities in Canada said the person was entering Canada from the United States. Canadian Border Services and Canadian police intercepted the person, who was arrested.
The person who jumped off the train was deemed inadmissible to enter Canada and was returned to the United States. In addition, two others involved in the alleged smuggling attempt were taken into custody for questioning.
Canadian authorities were not specific about when the alleged incident happened, but acknowledged that it was part of “Project Disrupt and Deter,” which was launched last month and aims to monitor vulnerable areas along the International Railway Bridge.
It is unclear if any of the individuals are set to face formal charges.
