Buffalo man pleads guilty to forged instrument charges in connection with fatal crash
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man who allegedly hit and killed a woman crossing the street in 2023 pleaded guilty to forged instrument charges Tuesday morning, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Mohammed Tanbir, 27, was driving with heavily tinted windows when he hit 21-year-old Sydney Lohr, officials said. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on July 15 as Lohr was crossing the street south of Forest Avenue after leaving her shift at Cole’s. She was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Lohr attended Saint Lawrence University. She was a member of Chi-Omega who wanted to be a lawyer.
The chapter said that Lohr was “a beautiful, brilliant, and charismatic girl with a heart of gold” and a “joy to all who knew her.”
Tanbir pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument Tuesday, the highest counts in the indictment against him.
According to officials, Tanbir forged a doctor’s signature in 2020, 2021, and 2022, claiming to have a medical condition, in order to have the tints legally installed in his vehicle.
Tanbir remains released on his own recognizance. He is expected to be sentenced on April 30 and faces up to seven years in prison.
