Buffalo man accused of kidnapping woman in Tonawanda
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man is facing a kidnapping charge in connection with a police pursuit in Tonawanda over the weekend, according to police.
Police responded to a larceny at a business on Niagara Street on Sunday afternoon, where it was alleged that a suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Dontay Mardino, stole items from the store.
A suspect vehicle was located in a nearby parking lot at another business. A short, low speed pursuit ensued in which police attempted to pull over the vehicle. The vehicle eventually came to a stop at the intersection of Franklin Street and Broad Street.
A female driver was detained while Mardino allegedly fled on foot. He was found a few hours later hiding in a vehicle in a Broad Street parking garage.
Mardino was charged with the following:
second-degree kidnapping
first-degree unlawful imprisonment
second-degree menacing
second-degree obstructing governmental administration
third-degree criminal trespass
He was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.
The driver was determined to have been a victim and was released. It is unclear what happened that led to the alleged kidnapping.
