Brothers, uncle sentenced for attack on Broadway in 2023
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two brothers and their uncle have all been sentenced in connection with the violent attack and gang assault of a man on Broadway in 2023, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
The brothers, 24-year-old Amonti Atkins and 28-year-old Amari Atkins, along with their uncle, 53-year-old Demetrius Gore, carried out the attack the morning of Aug. 20, 2023 on Broadway near Deshler Street. Amonti Atkins stabbed the man in the face and the three punched, kicked, and stomped on the man multiple times while he was on the ground.
The victim, 41 at the time, was taken to ECMC to be treated. He is still recovering in a long-term care facility.
The brothers were each sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after they both pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degree gang assault.
Meanwhile, Gore was sentenced to five years in prison followed by 1 1/2 years of post-release supervision after he pleaded guilty to second-degree assault.
A final order of protection was also issued on behalf of the victim.
