Authorities forced to kill Wisconsin man during dangerous standoff at public park
CALEDONIA, Wis. (WFRV) – A 37-year-old Wisconsin man is dead after being shot by authorities during a tactical standoff in the southeastern part of the state on Wednesday.
According to a release, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a phone call from a citizen who was at Cliffside Park in the village of Caledonia.

The citizen told authorities that there was a man in all-black clothing lying face down on a path, and he was not moving. The citizen said they felt unsafe getting any closer to the man.
Authorities responded to Cliffside Park to investigate, and shortly after law enforcement arrived on the scene, they reported over the radio that the man had discharged a firearm.
Deputies took cover, and a tactical response was initiated that included the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, Caledonia Police Department, Mount Pleasant Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Caledonia Fire Department.

Despite numerous efforts to negotiate with the man and resolve the incident without the use of deadly force, the man took actions that the release says forced law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions to shoot their firearms.
On-scene medical personnel provided immediate care to the man, but he died of his wounds at Cliffside Park.
The law enforcement officers involved were placed on administrative leave per agency policy.

The release says that the man is being identified as a 37-year-old white male with ties to Racine and Mount Pleasant.
