Auburn University graduate Drew Dauphin identified as victim of New Orleans attack

Another individual, an Auburn University graduate, has been identified as one of the at least 14 people killed Wednesday morning when an armed man drove a truck into a crowd celebrating New Year's in New Orleans' French Quarter. The FBI has deemed the attack an act of terrorism.
Auburn University President Christopher Roberts issued a statement on Thursday morning about the loss of Drew Dauphin. Auburn University is located in Auburn, Alabama.
"On behalf of Auburn University, I send my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of 2023 graduate Drew Dauphin, who was taken from us in the New Orleans terror attack," Roberts said in his statement, shared to social media. "Words cannot convey the sorrow the Auburn family feels for Drew’s family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time."
According to his LinkedIn profile, Dauphin graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in industrial and systems engineering in 2023. During his studies, Dauphin worked at the university's radio frequency identification lab.
"Drew was an excellent co-worker and always brought a positive attitude to the lab. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family," the Auburn University RFID Lab shared in a Facebook post on Thursday. "He will be greatly missed."
Following graduation, Dauphin worked as a supplier process engineer at American Honda Motor Company in Alabama, according to his LinkedIn profile.

What happened?
At around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, a pickup truck drove through a crowd of people in New Orleans' French Quarter. The driver, who appeared to be carrying an ISIS flag, fired at police officers from inside the vehicle, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said. The driver was fatally shot by law enforcement.
The driver was identified by the FBI as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen who lived in Texas.
Law enforcement and officials in New Orleans have not publicly identified any of the 14 victims, but family, friends, and institutions like Auburn University have shared news of loved ones lost.
At least 14 people were killed, and 30 people were injured during the attack, including two police officers who were shot but are now in stable condition.
