APD: 45-year-old faces charges for deadly May shooting
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man, who is in Arizona jail, has been accused of committing crimes in Albuquerque.
On May 14, 2024, Timothy Ruffin was shot and killed in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Street NE.
A witness reported seeing two men in a physical fight before hearing a loud “pop” with several other “pops” following. The witness explained one man stood up, gathered things in the area (including a black backpack), and drove away in a van that was nearby. APD said the van was registered to Ruffin, and there was additional evidence in a Nissan Rogue found at the scene.

Law enforcement determined the incident was a road rage situation that turned into a carjacking. The men in the altercation were identified as Ruffin and Jon Marquez, 45.
Marquez is in jail in Arizona on unrelated charges. When he was questioned, authorities claimed he didn’t remember his whereabouts when Ruffin was murdered. Bullets from the murder were linked to Marquez, police said.
Now, Marquez is being charged with an open count of murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm. Officials are working to bring him to Albuquerque to face the charges.
