Air 1 assists in arrest of Buffalo man for alleged stolen vehicle
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Air 1 helicopter assisted police Thursday in arresting a Buffalo man for an alleged stolen vehicle, according to the Buffalo Police Department.
Police said detectives observed a stolen Kia Forte traveling westbound on Northland Avenue around 8 p.m. The vehicle was tracked to Rex Place with assistance from Air 1.
Police said the driver fled the vehicle, and after a brief foot chase, officers apprehended the suspect on the 600 block of Humboldt Parkway.
Damage was found on the driver side door handle and the ignition of the stolen vehicle after it was recovered, police said. Scratches were found on the exterior passenger side and burglar’s tools were recovered along the path that the suspect fled, according to police.
20-year-old Brayjon McNeil of Buffalo was charged with the following:
one count third-degree criminal possession of stolen property
one count third-degree criminal mischief
one count possession of burglar’s tools
one count unauthorized use of a vehicle
Police said McNeil was arrested for unauthorized use of a vehicle twice before. On Jan. 21, 2023, he was arrested for a stolen vehicle on the first block of Carolina Street. Four days later he was arrested for a stolen vehicle on the first block of Fulton.
None of his Thursday charges qualify him for bail.
