Like Peaky Blinders before it, A Thousand Blows looks set to use a sprawling cast of characters to tell its story, with one central figure leading the way. At its core, the show will look at The Forty Elephants, a notorious, female-led gang that specialised in shoplifting and fought for survival during one of Victorian London’s most brutal eras.

Our guide through this world will be Hezekiah Moscow, a guy who finds himself living in London’s rough-and-ready East End after travelling from Jamaica. According to the show’s official synopsis, Moscow is quickly “drawn into the criminal underbelly of the thriving boxing scene” where he meets Mary Carr, leader of The Forty Elephants.

“As Hezekiah sharpens his new skills, he comes up against Sugar Goodson, played by Stephen Graham, a seasoned and dangerous boxer and the two are soon locked into an intense rivalry that spills out way beyond the ring.”

The powers that be must have faith in Knight and Graham’s vision because according to reports, a second season of A Thousand Blows has already been filmed, with release details for that story arc yet to be revealed.
