22-year-old pleads guilty to killing girlfriend in 2021
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend when they were both 18 in 2021, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
Mushagdusa Nankumba, 22, admitted to killing his girlfriend, 18-year-old Larrinsha Johnson, by strangling and beating her in a car parked at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park near West Parade Avenue on April 17, 2021. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nankumba has remained in custody since his arrest. He was found not competent to proceed following an exam in August 2021 and transferred to a psychiatric facility in Rochester. He returned to court in June 2023 after additional tests found him competent to proceed.
He pleaded guilty Friday morning to one count of first-degree manslaughter.
He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on March 31. He is being held without bail.
