20-year-old Buffalo man sentenced to 22 years for manslaughter
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 20-year-old Buffalo man received a 22-year prison sentence Tuesday morning for a manslaughter committed last winter, the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office announced.
According to officials, Dennis Parson admitted to shooting and killing 24-year-old Jaylan McWilson on Jan. 21, 2023 in front of McWilson’s Niagara Falls home.
“The McWilson family has irretrievably lost their son Jaylan, and a 20-year-old young man will spend the next 20 years of his life in prison, and there is no reason for either,” said Niagara County District Attorney Brian Seaman. “There was no good reason for the defendant to be carrying an illegal handgun, and there was no good reason for him to fire it.”
Parson pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in August. He was sentenced Tuesday to 22 years in state prison along with five years of post-release supervision.
