2 garbage collectors seriously injured following collision in City of Batavia
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two garbage collectors were seriously injured Tuesday morning after they were hit by a car while on the job in the City of Batavia, according to the Batavia Police Department.
Dispatch was called to the area of 40 Ellicott Ave. just after 7:15 a.m. for a report of a car vs. pedestrian accident. Two Casella Waste Systems employees were stationary outside of the garbage truck when they were struck by a passenger vehicle.
The employees, both men in their 30s, were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester via Mercy EMS. They suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, a Batavia woman in her 30s, was taken to the hospital out of precaution. An initial investigation found that she may have lost control of the vehicle due to a “medical event.”
She was issued a traffic ticket for failure to keep right.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Batavia officers at 585-345-6350.
