In advance of Carnegie Hall’s star-studded tribute concerts to the music of David Bowie, R.E.M.’s former frontman Michael Stipe covered The Man Who Sold the World’s title track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His first late-night television performance since 2014 comes close to six months after a slew of covers he sang late last year in a surprise opening set for Patti Smith.
