Paul McDonald Duets with Bride Nikki Reed at Rare L.A. Show
Season 10 "American Idol" alum Paul McDonald played a rare acoustic gig Tuesday night at Hollywood's intimate but prestigious Hotel Cafe (his first public show in over a year, and his first public solo show since his "Idol" stint), where he debuted a slew of great new tunes on a bill alongside Anya Marina. Unsurprisingly, many of Paul's new songs were love odes to his new bride, actress Nikki Reed--who sat in the front row beaming for his entire set, until she eventually joined him, June-and-Johnny-style, for an almost sickeningly lovey-dovey duet. Aw.
Nikki also remained onstage for the show's big finale of a brand-new song, literally written that afternoon, during which the Hotel Cafe patrons also enthusiastically joined in.
But it wasn't all warm 'n' fuzzy vibes onstage at the Hotel Cafe. Setting his six-string temporarily aside, the fiercely indie Paul stalked the stage for the scathing singalong "Dollar Sign," a hilarious anti-industry anthem with the notable line, "You can kiss my ass, 19 [Entertainment]." Oh, snap!
Actually, it seems that Paul is doing just fine on his own, judging by his solid new material. What do you think of his new songs?
