The First 'Wonder Woman' Trailer Lassos Comic-Con
After today, the DC Universe is Wonder Woman’s world, and we just live in it. The first trailer for the Amazonian warrior’s solo adventure premiered in front of eager Comic-Con crowds on Saturday during the Warner Bros. panel, and to say it went over well would be an understatement. Based on this two-and-a-half minute preview, the Patty Jenkins-directed blockbuster promises a strong mixture of giant spectacle and epic storytelling that some — including Jeremy Irons — felt was lacking from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
That story commences with soon-to-be Wonder Woman Diana (Gal Gadot) finding a man, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), washed up on the beaches of Themyscira, where the Amazons have dwelled in secrecy for centuries. Learning that the outside world stands on the brink of a global conflict — specifically, World War I — she leaves with this interloper but not before saying a tender farewell to her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen).
We also catch a glimpse of Diana’s aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright), who clearly has more warlike tendencies than her sister.
Then Steve and Diana head off to Europe, where she gets a firsthand taste of trench warfare.
Good thing she remembered to bring along her golden lasso!
We even get a glimpse of how well she glams up when she’s not on the battlefield — though she still manages to stash a sword down the back of that evening gown.
Whether she’s in costume or incognito, though, Diana cuts an imposing figure, refusing to be ordered around by Steve or any other man. Any why not? After all, it’s taken decades for Wonder Woman to score her own adventure, and she’s going to fight the good fight her way. Based on this sneak peek, we’re ready to go along for the ride. Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017.
