Ghostbusters Reboot Trailer Most Disliked In YouTube History

It’s official – nobody likes the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot.

At least, that’s the not-so-surprising take away from YouTube’s statistics – with the ‘Ghostbusters’ trailer scoring a staggering 600,000 dislikes. And that just happens to make it the most disliked movie trailer in YouTube history.

And that’s not the only dubious honour bestowed upon the ‘Ghostbusters’ trailer.

After reaching a phenomenal level of audience dissatisfaction, the video is now the first movie trailer ever to appear in YouTube’s list of 100 Most Disliked Videos… coming in at a depressing #18 (so far).

But where has all the hate come from?

The release of the first official trailer wasn’t exactly pretty… and came with a resounding chorus of ‘why are they remaking a classic?’. It certainly seems as though that’s where a lot of the initial hate came from… along with general scorn for making a female ‘Ghostbusters’.

Director Paul Feig initially labelled criticism for the film as ‘vile misogynist shit’ but has since tried to downplay any negative reactions.

“The haters on our trailer were very proud of the fact they had racked up 400,000 dislikes on YouTube versus 200,000 likes,” he told The Guardian. “But that’s not a majority by anybody standards. Some of it is that people don’t want an old property touched – I’m sympathetic to that. But the ones who are hating it because it’s about women? That’s just a non-starter.”

Of course, he’s right – 600,000 dislikes on a video which has 29 million views is a small number… but it’s still triple the amount of positive ‘likes’.

And Feig is quick to blame it all on the media…

“It makes me sad that [the negativity around Ghostbusters] informs every article now,” he said. “There’s always some comment about how people are down on it. Well, somebody is down on everything. It’s very easy once you’re predisposed to be pissed about something, to watch it and find fault.”

But then, it’s a lot easier to find fault when something isn’t good.

Let’s be honest – the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot feels like a cynical remake so far, which fails to grab the imagination of the audience in the same way as the original movie. And it seems to resort to tired old tropes such as the sassy black woman…

So does it really need to be made?

Either way, it’s happening… but at least 600,000 people aren’t happy about it.
