'Ghostbusters' Director Paul Feig Uninterested in Directing Future Remakes

Ghostbusters has been in theaters for almost a month now, and all the turmoil surrounding its release has basically subsided. The reboot got generally good reviews, but the storm of criticism it got, some fair, a lot of it not, has made an impact on the person who directed it, Paul Feig.

The Huffington Post spoke with Feig, and he said that he’s not interested in helming another classic movie remake. When asked if he’d consider doing it again, he said, “No, no, no. No, I will not.”

Feig has typically made films based off of original screenplays. So why even bother with a reboot in the first place? Well, he told HuffPo, “This one was just too tempting because I knew we could do something with it that was exciting.”

It should be noted, though, just because he doesn’t currently want to go through the rigmarole of another reimagining doesn’t mean he isn’t proud of Ghostbusters. He said it’s a success and “validation for the years of false controversy.”

That being said, while he might not direct another remake, he might write one. In March, Deadline reported that Feig had been recruited to pen the script of The Intouchables, an Americanized version of the popular 2011 French film.

Back to Ghostbusters. This won’t be the last time a gender-swapped classic movie remake comes out. Rebel Wilson will star in the new, female-led Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Channing Tatum will be a merman in the upcoming film Splash. Here’s hoping the people involved with those movies don’t have to deal with the same nonsense this time around.
