Watch the First Fierce and Filthy Trailer for ‘Deadpool’ (NSFW)
The first official Deadpool trailer is finally here for mass consumption in all its filthy glory. (It's a slight variation on the version that premiered to oohs, aahs and a demand for an encore at San Diego Comic-Con.) The preview debuted tonight on Conan after an interview with star Ryan Reynolds, and you can watch it now above.
The very NSFW peek gives us a full-length look at the sailor-mouthed Marvel anti-hero Deadpool, a.k.a. Wade Wilson, a.k.a. “the Merc with a Mouth” (Reynolds), who beats terminal cancer by allowing scientists to turn him into a impenetrable fighting machine (not a bad deal!)
In a scene that's very similar to the leaked test footage that got the film greenlit in the first place, Deadpool is soon leaping off a highway overpass into an SUV and pulverizing a team of henchmen, slicing noggins clean off others, and making a 4-for-1 blood-splattering kill shot.
Those who caught the initial crowd pleaser at Comic-Con will note a few subtle updates. For instance, there’s no gushing over the name of mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead (played by Brianna Hilderbrand), the character who the filmmakers have admitted to plucking from relative Marvel obscurity because of her badass alias.
Deadpool marks the directorial debut of Tim Miller, best known for crafting the visual effects of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, and was written by Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It also stars Ed Skrein as the villainous Ajax, Morena Baccarin as Wade’s love interest Vanessa Carlysle, Andre Tricoteux as the monstrous (CGI) Colossus, and Gina Carano as the femme fatale Angel Dust.
The movie hits theaters Feb. 12, 2016. If we can wait that long. You can also watch the green-band trailer here:
