Zeeland's Chalk Fest returns this week, including something new
ZEELAND — Zeeland’s Chalk Fest will return for the fourth time June 13, this time in collaboration with Music on Main.
The event will run 4-9 p.m. Thursday, June 13, on Elm Street. Before the official kickoff, the public can watch artists create their works from 1-4 p.m. — according to a press release.
Seven artists, spanning a diverse range of ages and levels of professional training, will work on sections of the street that are six-foot-by-six-foot. They include Gwendolyn Russell, Esther Heethuis, Johnathan Buggs, Danae Wilson, Carly Schaub, Ella Pettit and Emily Miller.
Attendees can vote on their favorite works and the winner will be announced on social media Friday.
Accompanying the artwork, there'll be live performances from 4-6 p.m. (The Johnny Park Band) and 6-9 p.m. (The Bakker Hanegraaff Band). The bands are part of Zeeland's annual Music on Main series, which takes place Thursdays throughout the summer and includes yard games and food trucks. The event will be "off Main" until July due to ongoing construction along Main Avenue.

“I am very excited about the collaboration between Chalk Fest and Music on Main,” said Zeeland City Events Coordinator Kerri VanDorp. “They’re both great events by themselves, but I feel as though there's a lot of overlap, so putting them together creates this beautiful piece we can host in downtown Zeeland."
