If You're A Cancer With A Crush On An Aquarius, You Might Want To Rethink That

The perfect pairing doesn't exist, but you can get pretty close—at least according to the zodiac. Some signs just get you, and others don't. Odds are, when you consider your astrological compatibility, you automatically think of a few signs that you always mesh well with. And maybe there's one or two that aren't your cup of tea.
Don't get me wrong, self-reflection is always a good move, but astrology can do a lot of that heavy lifting in the romantic discovery space for you. The study of the stars and how it impacts your personality can tell you almost everything when it comes to why you like what you like, do what you do, and who will be into all you have to offer.
If you’re an Aquarius, you might not really care what other people think of you—and astrology would confirm that. But, it would also tell you that certain signs love how unbothered you are about getting anyone’s approval.
"Aquarius is ruled by two planets, Saturn in traditional astrology and Uranus in modern astrology," explains Narayana Montúfar, senior astrologer at Astrology.com and author of Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power. Thing is, these two planets couldn’t be any more different. "Saturn is the planet of tradition and long-term commitments, while Uranus is the planet of freedom and rebellion" and Aquarians live in that unique space between the two. "When it comes to love, [Aquarians] might want to be part of a committed relationship—but the truth is that they cherish their freedom more than anything," she says. Ah, gotta love inner conflict, right?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, not everyone can handle confident and independent Aquarius, but there are a few signs who just can’t get enough of the water bearer sign. Ahead, discover Aquarius’ meant-to-be matches and star-crossed lovers.
The signs Aquarius is most compatible with:
Sagittarius
Sagittarius gets Aquarius. (And not just because they have that "us" thing in common.) I mean, they get them in that they love Aquarius' out-there personality and unconventional views. Sag is a fire sign, and air feeds fire, so it checks out.
And even though Aquarians can be a bit stubborn, Sags can adapt. On the other hand, "Aquarius loves the ways worldly Sag brings optimism and helps Aquarius see the big picture," says Montúfar.
Together, they make a pair of big thinkers. They're that couple who has long conversations at a party about culture, travel, and philosophy. But once they're done, they can easily mingle with other people without being attached at the hip. "This is a good match because neither of these two signs will be tripping about the classic romance problems—jealousy, neediness, etc.," she adds. "They will give each other the freedom they need."

Aries
"Aquarius finds Aries' adventurous spirit fun and exciting, and Aries is individualistic enough to not be put off by Aquarius' cool and remote nature," says Montúfar. "Aries needs someone who can keep up with their pace and Aquarians can do that." Not surprising since this is another fire-air duo.
As a couple, fun and feeling good are top priority. Aries and Aquarius are all about building community and adventure—meaning, they're usually the pair who's down for anything. After a day date of hiking, or something daring like skydiving, an Aquarius-Aries couple will still be game to meet friends at the club later that night, Montúfar adds.
But—and this is a big one—"when Aquarians need their time alone, Aries will give that to them since Aries natives aren't clingy and needy."
Gemini
Fellow air sign Gemini is another good match for freedom-loving Aquarius, says Montúfar. "They are both intellectual and approach love and relationships in a similar fashion. They will have endless conversations and enjoy having an active social life," she explains.
This pair will spend most of their time doing something mentally stimulating like debating, or quizzing each other, or taking on cool projects together, like making a garden in the yard.
When they're out together, they're not trying to be the life of the party, but it usually happens anyway since, by being themselves, they're by default pretty cool. It's important to both Gemini and Aquarius to maintain their friendships, so their respective social circles will usually be pretty big. Now, when they bring those two social groups together, you just know it'll be an absolute blast.
Leo
Leo and Aquarius are the epitome of "opposites attract." They sit directly across from each other on the zodiac wheel, which means they clash with and complement each other.
"We are most likely going to find this combination happening a lot in real life," says Montúfar. "Aquarius is impressed with how Leo works a room and shines in social scenarios, and Leo is impressed with Aquarius’ groundbreaking ideas and incredible intelligence."
They're both determined and fixed in their own ways, so this pair can expect the occasional disagreement on certain topics. "If they try, they are able to find middle ground—and might even end up 'fixing their differences' of opinion in the bedroom!" she adds.
Libra
"Libra is one of the best matches for Aquarius, as they are both air signs, which means they speak the same language when it comes to life in general," explains Montúfar. This pairing thrives off of collaboration and exchanging ideas. They can spend hours talking about everything from common interests to random subjects.
They also have a similar approach to their emotions and process them in the same way. "They would not get caught up in melodramas like a lot of other signs do," says Montúfar. "Whenever there’s an issue between them, they can rationally arrive at a solution and then move on!'
The signs Aquarius is somewhat compatible with:
Capricorn
Capricorn and Aquarius are both ruled by Saturn, so there's hope! They both take life seriously and often stress about meaningful things. However, Capricorn can be too conservative, which can clash with Aquarius, who tends to be free-spirited and loves their alone time.
Montúfar adds that Aquarius is a social sign, which might tire Capricorn out since they prefer to hide out in social scenarios. If they can sort out their differences, though, they can make it work.
Aquarius
"This could be a match made in heaven or a complete nightmare!" says Montúfar. "Two Aquarians would definitely have fun together, but sometimes, they would butt heads." Aquarians like to get their way, so two of them in a pair can lead to arguments that go in circles for hours.
But on a positive note, they would have a unique friend group they can both bounce off of. It would be a recipe for an extended social hour. Two Aquarians can make big things happen and create an out-of-the-ordinary life for themselves, says Montúfar.
The signs Aquarius is least compatible with:
Cancer
"The one sign whose energy is alien to Aquarius is Cancer’s," says Montúfar. "They have absolutely nothing in common. Aquarius is social, intellectual, and stubborn. And Cancer is emotional, ambitious, and a homebody." They're so incompatible that Montúfar gives Cancer-Aquarius relationships a month tops. "They literally speak different languages and live very different lifestyles."
Aquarius simply can't give a Cancer the attention and emotional support they need to feel happy. And Aquarians might feel bogged down by Cancers who aren't typically social and instead "focus on family life and self-care," she adds.
Taurus
In this case, opposites don't attract. In fact, Taurus and Aquarius couldn't be any more different. "The truth is that both are quite stubborn and could butt heads for days and days," says Montúfar. "Taurus is quite traditional and a creature of habit who settles into dating routines quite easily, and Aquarius is an exciting sign that needs an element of change."
Aquarius will likely find themselves bored. Meanwhile, Taurus would be taken aback by Aquarius' approach to life. Montúfar reassures that this paring isn't necessarily doomed, but they can expect frequent clashes over personality differences.
Virgo
"Virgo is one of the least positive matches for Aquarius, as these two signs have little in common. What they share is that they are both of intellectual nature—however, they approach life and romance from different perspectives," says Montúfar.
Virgo is inclined to perfectionist behavior and is fixed on doing things the "right way," while Aquarius is well-known for being the rebel. Although Aquarius might know the rules, they may be too tempted to create their own, which would throw Virgo off.
These signs can be solid as a duo in career-related events, but aren't the best mix when it comes to love or friendship.
Scorpio
While these signs do pretty much everything differently, they can work things out for the better. As an air sign, Aquarius is witty and intellectually driven but can have difficulties talking about feelings and emotions. Scorpio, on the other hand, lives their lives through emotions and needs someone who can open up.
"Scorpio is just too intense for Aquarius, and Aquarius is too dry for Scorpio," explains Montúfar. "In a romantic relationship, Scorpio needs lots of attention and Aquarius needs freedom. It goes without saying that this is an odd match." Maybe a romantic relationship between these two can be rocky, but they could be good friends or colleagues.
Pisces
Another sign that could be a hit or a miss with Aquarius is Pisces. Pisces loves to daydream and often lives in a world of fantasy, while Aquarius centers themselves in reason and facts.
"For Aquarius, Pisces is just too mystical and out there. And for Pisces, Aquarius is just too dry and intense. Pisces is also a very emotional and sensitive sign, which is sure to drive Aquarius crazy," says Montúfar.
Aquarius is also hard-headed and likes to settle on things. Pisces, however, tends to change their mind frequently. "They are just too different types of people!" she adds.
What it's like to be with an Aquarius:
"When it comes to love and romance, Aquarians need a partner [who] is going to give them plenty of space and room to be themselves," says Montúfar. "And since they are social butterflies, jealous and dramatic partners need not apply."
Someone who needs emotional validation and reassurance might feel like they're getting a bunch of mixed messages because "Aquarians are not that forward about feelings," says Montúfar. "They tend to rationalize emotions, which can sometimes hurt the other person." That can be frustrating for potential partners, and may even end up being a dealbreaker.
Because this Sun sign is easily bored, Aquarians are attracted to people who'll stimulate them mentally—as most other air signs are. And as the "cool kids" of the zodiac, says Montúfar, Aquarians need to find the people they're spending a lot of time with interesting and confident.
