You'll Be Hooked on These Pretty Orange Wines for Fall
You may have seen a pretty new hue of wine recently popping up at local bars and restaurants, especially if the menu gravitates toward natural wines. And that hue is orange. Even supermarket chain Aldi has cashed in on the orange wine trend. To be crystal clear: Orange wine is a color and style of wine, not an entirely new category.
Technically called skin-contact white wine, orange wines are made by vinifying white grapes the way red wine is normally made. Instead of removing the grape skins after pressing (this is how most white wines are produced), the juice is fermented in contact with the grape skins. Thus, taste-wise, orange wine has a similar tannic structure to a younger red wine, with a slightly mellower flavor. Orange wines are a bit "meatier" than a white wine made from the same grape; they will be bolder, more savory, funkier.
Now that you're up to speed on this whole orange wine trend, let's get you set up with some of our current favorite bottles to sip this fall.
