Regarding "A war on lawns? Environmentalists are urging homeowners to rethink them," NorthJersey.com, April 12:

A garden center owner is quoted as saying, “Lawns don't provide anything, they only harm our environment."

I find this claim a little hard to believe. Lawns absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, provide passive cooling, prevent soil erosion, absorb rainwater and prevent flooding.

They’re also aesthetically pleasing. Lawn lovers really enjoy cultivating the greenest lawn in the neighborhood. Lawns provide the homeowners with exercise and provide jobs for landscapers.
