Women Are Thanking Dr. Ford For Her Bravery on Twitter
Dr. Christine Ford has now sat before the Senate Judiciary Committee-and viewers watching across the country-to testify about her sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The high-stakes hearing has been emotional, as Ford has been peppered with questions about the assault, which happened when she was a teenager.
When asked what she most remembered from the alleged incident, Ford replied, through a cracked voice, "Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter. The uproarious laughter between the two and having fun at my expense." Thousands of people, especially women, took to Twitter to show their support for Ford.
Here are some of the reactions:
Men, it's real basic. Don't be a fool. Respect women. Don't be a slimeball or a come on. Speak up when women are not respected. Keep yourself to yourself and your words restrained. Watch the alcohol. Be decent and kind to women. #KavanaughHearings

Adult male can't figure out why woman finds going on vacation easier than reliving her sexual assault on national television https://t.co/la24tPsfBj

When a woman has told a Senate panel in vivid detail about how a nominee for the Supreme Court has sexually assaulted her, under oath, and the GOP talking point is "But is she really afraid of flying?" #KavanaughHearings pic.twitter.com/Nh7GELy9S9

The courage of Dr. Ford is awe inspiring and tear inducing. Justice may not ever come, a reality most survivors know all too well, but today, Dr. Ford's words, her sacrifice gives light and a voice to all survivors who are just now learning to use their voice. #KavanaughHearings

As a survivor of sexual assault, it’s empowering to watch Dr. Ford stand there strong & vulnerable & speak her truth to the entire world. No matter how this goes, we are disrupting a toxic system and this is just the beginning for women, minorities and 🏳?🌈. Together.

On the day of her grandmother’s funeral, Dr. Ford took her polygraph. Despite a fear of flying, she took 2 cross country flights to handle this. Despite tremendous anxiety at every step, she kept making calls. Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s going forward despite it.

I cried listening to the testimony of Dr. Ford this morning during my commute. I cried because the truth of her words rings clear to anyone with a functioning brain and moral compass. That she is required to publicly relive her trauma for a gang of elite men is beyond repulsive.

Dr. Ford is facing her fears . . .the fear of flying, the fear of this testimony, the fear of going public & what that means for her & her family, the fear of the memories of what happened. She is a woman of great courage & this nation should be grateful we have such people here.

Sexual assault is about the abusive use of power. Today we saw a woman, victim of such trauma, use the power of her person to teach the nation what courage, power and persistence is truly about. Like so many, I am in tears. Thank you Dr. Ford. #Kavanaugh

Dr. Ford's Testimony is painful. Female candidates don't show emotions because we are advised that if we do, we become vulnerable. Today, as a woman who feels her pain I will show support to the brave one who spoke up. Thank you, Christine. #IBelieveChristineBlaseyFord pic.twitter.com/XU5Y8HvHtW
