BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Western New York is celebrating Women’s History Month with organizations and businesses putting the spotlight on local women, both past and present, by hosting a variety of events and performances.

Buffalo AKG Art Museum
The museum is hosting a variety of events throughout March, including art activities, a dance workshop, music by DJ Lisa Lux, a book signing with author Lori Zimmer and illustrator Maria Krasinski, and live performances. Click here for more information.
International Women’s Day at Temple Beth Zion
A full day of activities will be taking place on March 8 at Temple Beth Zion on Delaware Avenue. The festivities will begin with a Torah study at 9:15 a.m. followed by Shabbat services at 10:30. Chai will be served at 12:15 p.m. and a panel about women’s issues will take place an hour later. Tickets are sold at the door. Follow this link to register.
All About Her at Seneca Niagara
A marketplace at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is hosting vendors from over 50 women-owned businesses along with live entertainment, a “sip and savor” package and more. The event is free to attend and will take place from noon to 4 p.m. March 8 (International Women’s Day), at 310 4th St. in Niagara Falls. Ladies First Jazz Big Band & Zach Carr Women’s History Month Celebration
The annual celebration, featuring Buffalo’s only all-female Big Band and guest vocalist Zach Carr, will honor women in jazz music. The event is from 2 to 4 p.m. March 9, at the Classics V Banquet & Conference located at 2425 Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst. Tickets are $28.52.
The Spiritualists & The Suffragists
The Clarence Public Library is hosting local author Amanda Woomer for a presentation on the Spiritualist Movement, which took place in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and how it was linked to suffragist and women’s rights movements. The presentation takes place at 6:30 p.m. March 10 at 3 Town Place.
The Space She Keeps
The Martin House, located at 125 Jewett Parkway in Buffalo, has its exhibit open until June 2. “The Space She Keeps” spotlights the women who lived and worked at the Martin House by displaying a range of objects and photographs from the start of the 20th century. Tickets to the Martin House are $15 and include free admission to the exhibit.
Road Movies: Feminist Film Series
The Screening Room Cinema & Arts Cafe at 880 Alberta Drive in Amherst is screening two double features at 7 p.m. on March 13 and 20 to celebrate Women’s History Month. “The Rain People” (1969) and “Thelma and Louise” (1991) are the films of choice for March 13, with “A Life of Her Own” (1950) and “Wanda” (1970) set for March 20. Tickets are $10 for a double feature and $6 for a single feature.
B.I.G. featuring Women Entrepreneurs
B.I.G., the Buffalo Innovators Gathering, is hosting a panel discussion featuring female entrepreneurs in Buffalo. The discussion will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 15, in the auditorium of the Buffalo History Museum located at 1 Museum Court.
Link & Clink
Two sessions of “Link & Clink,” which is described as a speed networking event specifically for women, will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m. March 19, at the Mint Mojito Bar located at 1225 Niagara St. in Buffalo. Made for women ages 25 to 45, the event is geared toward women with small businesses to network and make connections. Tickets are $15.18.
WNED Classical Live on Stage #24: Hidden Gems by Women Composers
WNED PBS Studios is hosting a live performance to showcase works by women composers. The free event takes place at 2 p.m. March 23, at 140 Lower Terrace in Buffalo. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. After the performance, there will be a Q&A. To reserve a spot, click here.
