There’s a Wild ‘NCIS’ Theory Going Around that Ziva Is Going to Replace Gibbs
Cote de Pablo's character, Ziva, returned to NCIS during the season 16 finale.
Fans are buzzing about what this might mean for her going forward, and a crazy fan theory has started taking over the internet.
There is a lot to look forward to when NCIS returns for season 17 this September. But the biggest question on everyone’s brain is: What is happening with that Ziva twist?
Although we believed her to be dead for years, Ziva David, played by Cote de Pablo, made a triumphant and very shocking return during the finale in May. It was only for a few seconds to warn Gibbs (Mark Harmon) that he was in danger, but we know there’s more coming, as the executive producers promised Ziva would be in the premiere this fall.
As soon as viewers heard that, they immediately started searching every corner of the internet for hints about her future. And there’s one polarizing theory that is starting to gain traction.
A few months ago, a Reddit user shared the following idea about how the Ziva storyline may eventually play out:
“Gibbs is old now, I stand by that the only way this show can continue is if Ziva takes his place as team lead, oh how wonderful that would be. They could just write that for her child’s protection, Tony is taking care of her in hiding, I wouldn’t be bad at all, anything to have her back.”
Ziva replace Gibbs?
There were a flurry of responses, some claiming Ziva is “hunting way bigger game” and doesn’t need the NCIS, and others making the case that McGee is Gibbs’ rightful heir. The conversation even boiled over on Twitter, with a few people mentioning they aren’t too thrilled with the idea.
Considering some still aren’t convinced Ziva is even alive—Gibbs does have a tendency to see ghosts, after all—anything is possible at this point. Our dream scenario would be for Ziva and Gibbs to stick around forever, but that’s just us.
