This Is Why Kaia Gerber Didn't Attend the 2023 Oscars with Austin Butler
Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler did not make their much-awaited Oscars debut tonight as many fans expected; instead, the Elvis heartthrob walked the champagne carpet solo.
Butler looked dapper as ever in a sleek black velvet suit by Saint Laurent. He paired the look with a classic white button-down, a black bow tie, and black shiny dress shoes.
He did not bring a date to the ceremony—which was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles—as his model girlfriend remains overseas at South by Southwest, a media and entertainment event that takes place annually in Austin, Texas. (At least she had Austin in her heart.)
The festival runs from March 10 to March 19, and Gerber has been participating in events throughout the weekend. On her Instagram Story today, she shared photos and videos of herself in a chic, sleeveless white dress by The Row at the premiere of her upcoming comedy film Bottoms, which took place yesterday.
So, that explains why she couldn't make it to the red carpet all the way in Los Angeles to accompany her man.
The model and the actor have been dating since December 2021. Back in May 2022, they made their Cannes Film Festival debut—one of their first public appearances—to celebrate the premiere of Elvis, the Baz Luhrmann film in which Butler portrays the king of rock 'n' roll Elvis Presley. Butler is nominated for best actor at tonight's Oscars for his role in the biopic.
