Why Joe Jonas Isn't With Sophie Turner at the 2019 Emmys
The Game of Thrones cast has a big night ahead of them at the Emmys, and that includes first time nominee Sophie Turner. But her husband Joe Jonas won't be joining her on the red carpet or at the ceremony—and it's all because of work. The Jonas Brothers are playing Kansas City's Sprint Center tonight. The Emmys, meanwhile, are all the way in Los Angeles, around the same time.
Turner is nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her work as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. Her co-stars Maisie Williams (who plays Arya), Lena Headey (who plays Cersei), and Gwendoline Christie (who plays Brienne) are competing against her in the category.
Turner was moved by her nomination. “I’m beyond humbled. I truly never thought that this would ever happen,” Turner wrote on her Instagram Story when it was announced in July. “This is the best farewell to the show that has been my life for the past 10 years.”
Joe Jonas also shared how excited he was for Turner on his own Instagram when the nominations came out. He wrote in an Instagram Story post, "Emmy nomination @sophiet I'm so incredibly proud of you."
Jonas visited the Game of Thrones set when Turner was shooting the final season as Sansa. Turner said earlier this year that he was one of the few people who knew the ending before the finale aired, and he had to sign an NDA because of it. "He was on set for most of it, so he kind of figured it out and then he had to sign an NDA,” Turner said in April. “He had to have, like, full photo approval on set. His camera was covered up, everything.”
