Why Is Everyone Flipping Out Over Meghan Markle and Her Car Door?
It's easy to take one look at the picture-perfect royal family and fawn a little bit (goodness knows we're guilty of that), but in some cases, they barely have to lift a finger to get a tidal wave of adoration. Case in point: Meghan Markle going to her first solo royal event on Tuesday.
While the Duchess of Sussex went to an exhibit opening in a sheer and velvet Givenchy dress, fans of hers immediately zeroed in on a tiny moment as indefinite proof that she is The Most Down-to-Earth Royal Who Has Ever Existed — all because she shut her car door. Yes, really.

Take it in people, because this is apparently what a good royal who's just like us looks like.
In all seriousness, we're the first to praise the family for doing good and seeming, well, normal, but this is some next-level schmoozing. The internet essentially had a meltdown over it.

Completely down to earth and humble

I don’t think #MeghanMarkle sees herself as better than anyone else. She knows that she and #PrineHarry are blessed to have found each other. I’m proud of her. Life is good.

First time I've seen an on-duty princess shut her own car door... https://t.co/5Mg9TOi6lo

I had to smile - Meghan is closing the door of that car herself - you know she′s still used to doing that...???????? https://t.co/YB9tGNdRlq

None of this is to say that Markle isn't deserving of praise — she's done great charity work already as a royal, with her new cookbook that benefits the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in London — but maybe we should do her justice by focusing on that instead. It's nice that Markle doesn't expect others to open and close doors for her, but at the same time, if that's the bar for royal relatability, we've got a very, very low bar.

Even so, Markle taking charge herself shouldn't be unexpected. The last time she was faced with royal transit protocol, she and Queen Elizabeth had an awkward mishap, so maybe she's just going to steer clear of car protocol from now on and do things the way most normal people would.
Can't say we blame her.
